What's needed to make construction data photorealistic?
MODEL VIRTUALIZATION
The product CAD data that 3DEXCITE receives needs to be enhanced for visualization. Included are in general geometry adding, cleaning of geometry, checking for completeness, material distribution. In essence, every step that is needed to ensure a product correct virtual model.

What do we aim for?
LOOK DEFINITION
Product correctness is important, but as it is just the tip of the iceberg, an Art Director also needs to define the correct look. Step by step, many aspects, such as nuances of material characteristics, the light setup, flares, reflections, shadows etc. make up the ideal image. All efforts lead to a tailored, best quality staging of the product.
How to visualize an authentic car paint?
PERFECT PAINT
Paint covers most parts of the car and significantly influences the overall appearance of the vehicle. In order to show car paints in a consistent and attractive way, a specially developed system with four passes is used. It is the combination of all these passes that makes it possible to show a car with such a high-quality level of realism.

How to illuminate a digital scene?
LIGHT SETUP
To emphasize the design and therefore the character of a car, to show the correct profile and to create the right atmosphere a further factor is crucial: the light setup. Every important detail must be emphasized to enrich the overall look. The operator sticks to an initially approved ‘look definition’ in order to visualize all cars in a similar situation.
How do we get the virtual model into the web browser?
RENDERING LAYERS
As soon as all materials are adjusted, the light setup is fine-tuned and the car looks perfectly realistic. All 3D models are split up into 2D layers, grouped according to configurations and visibility. Every variant of every component is rendered individually, so that later on, various configurations can be combined into layers.

How do the renderings get their final touch?
POST PRODUCTION
The previously defined look is now applied across the complete rendered content. That means that fine-tuning of all paints, rims, trims, decors - in short: every variant one can think of – happens here to stage the content perfectly. Careful retouching makes the materials and the design of the car appear so real.
Before After
How and where are the individual parts assembled?
LAYER COMPOSITION
For the integration into the website, the content is now grouped into shots and fitting variants. As the layers were sorted during the render process, they can now easily be assembled as an image, like a numbered puzzle. Furthermore, this process makes it possible to configure the selected Audi model directly on the website in any way you want. The layer composition process happens in the web server engines of the involved web agencies.

And that's it?
WE WON’T GIVE IT A REST
Once all is done, it goes on with the next shot, the next model or with a new production for the next model year. This way, the WebCC is always kept up to date and can be adapted to different markets when needed.
